Driver flees accident scene at rail crossing

Sudbury OPP are seeking the assistance of the public to locate a person who damaged a crossing arm at a CP rail crossing.

On Nov. 21 at around 11 a.m., members of the Sudbury OPP responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 144 at the Canadian Pacific Railway crossing, south of Benny Road at Bannerman Lake, north of Cartier.

Investigation revealed a southbound pickup truck pulling a trailer drove through the erected crossing arm as a train approached the crossing, tearing the arm off at its base.

The vehicle failed to remain at the collision scene and continued southbound on Highway 144.

The total amount of damage, including the cost of a new crossing arm, is approximately $2,000.
