The Greater Sudbury Police Service conducted a R.I.D.E. program on Nov. 27 at Falconbridge Road at Auger Street, Kingsway, Second Avenue and Brady Street at Cedar Street.

The program is aimed at reducing property damage, injuries and death caused by impaired driving. R.I.D.E. checks are intended to target high-incident / high-complaint areas.

As a result of Friday night's program, a pair of three-day licece suspensions were issued and two drivers were charged for driving while under suspension.

A total of 375 vehicles were stopped during the Friday evening roadside checks and not one criminal code offence was issued for driving while impaired.

While on R.I.D.E. checks, officers were also utilizing the Automated Licence Plate Recognition technology (ALPR) which detected the two suspended drivers, one unlicensed driver and two drivers with expired validation stickers on their vehicles.

Operation Red Nose mascot Rudy was also a part of our R.I.D.E. check, thanking those who were sober and or designated drivers.

Officers also noticed a high number of taxis on the road and Operation Red Nose volunteer drivers. Police would like to thank those drivers who made the right choice.
