The Ontario Provincial Police on Manitoulin Island have charged a prominent business owner with drug trafficking.
The Manitoulin OPP, with assistance from the OPP's drug enforcement unit and the Emergency Response Unit, executed a search warrant at a Little Current residence on Jan. 5 at around 5:30 p.m. The business in question is attached to the residence.
Police say their search turned up cannabis, morphine, oxycodone and cash, all of which was seized.
Following his arrest yesterday, the OPP has charged Christopher Blodgett, 41, with possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
Blodgett operates Discovery Yacht Tours, a familiar Little Current business. This past summer Blodgett also opened another business, North Channel Cruise Line, which was featured by NorthernLife.ca's sister publication, Northern Ontario Business.
Blodgett is being held in custody pending a bail hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court on Jan. 8 in Gore Bay.
