The third Amythest summer curling camp will be taking place Sunday July 2 to 7 at Countryside Arena.
The bantam boys' and bantam girls' teams who will be
representing Ontario at the Canada Winter Games will be in
attendance and using the camp as a team training ground.
Once again, top coaches from across Canada will be teaching the
teens who are 13 to 18 years of age.
Jim Waite, the camp director, is the Olympic Men's Team's -
Team Leader and spent a great deal of time away this year at
the Olympics and other national and international events.
An addition to this year's camp is an ice technicians'
course for level one and level two. Approximately 30
people are expected to attend.
Course content for level one includes: Ice plant care and
operation, tools of the trade, ice and building temperature,
pebbling, use of hand and mechanical scrapers, maintenance long
term, care of curling stones and ice conditions
Content for level two includes: Floors and draining, spraying
and flooding, painting, taping, ice equipment, plant equipment,
rocks and pebbling and water quality. The course is a three-day
hands-on program.
