Cornell freshman forward and Greater Sudbury athlete Rebecca Johnston was a unanimous selection as the Ivy League Rookie of the Year in women's ice hockey, the league office announced this week following voting conducted by the league's coaches.

Johnston becomes the Big Red's first Ivy League Rookie of the Year since Dana Antal received the award in 1996.

Johnston, who leads the Big Red with 31 points on 15 goals and 16 assists in 24 games, was also the top rookie scorer among Ancient Eight schools. Johnston's 1.29 points-per-game average ranked her eighth overall among Ivy League players and fourth nationally in freshman scoring.

In addition to being selected as the league's rookie of the year, Johnston, a native of Sudbury, Ontario, was also named to the All-Ivy League First Team. She becomes the first Cornell women's hockey player selected to the first team since Robin Thompson and Janna Dewar were both selected as first-team members in 1997-98.
