Studio Fitness at Sixth Avenue in Lively will be presenting a seminar Aug. 23, lead by fitness and nutrition expert, Paul Plakas, head trainer on the television show X-Weighted.

X-Weighted, which won a Gemini Award in 2008, has inspired many thousands of people worldwide to lose weight, a press release stated. The success stories have come via e-mail from the United States, the UK, and all over Canada.

With more than 10 years on fitness-based television shows, Plakas also runs his own personal training studio in Edmonton, where he trains celebrities and NHL hockey players.

The trainer's fitness journey began when he was a “very overweight child” hanging around his parents' restaurant in Calgary, the release stated. His diet consisted of junk food throughout his entire youth and teen years. He decided to dedicate himself to fitness and clean eating.

His search for the best ways to total health lead him to fitness and nutrition degrees at the University of Alberta, and he has spent the past 22 years researching the most advanced methods of diet and training.

The X-Weighted seminar will include three hours on fitness and nutrition, as well as an exercise demo by Plakas and the professional trainers of Studio Fitness at Sixth Avenue.

The seminar is seated and there will be no need for people to bring gym clothes.

Tickets are $79 and include a Paul Plakas DVD and book, which have a value of $40. As well, each ticket holder will receive one free personal training session from Studio Fitness at Sixth Avenue, which has a value of $50.

The seminar will take place at the Sixth Avenue Golf and Country Club from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact Beth Bedard at 692-4203. Attendees are encouraged to bring notebooks, pens, picture cameras and sound recorders. Video cameras will not be permitted.
