The Laurentian University men's basketball program will host a full-day coaching clinic June 26 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the university's Ben Avery Gymnasium.

The clinic targets all coaches who want to continue to learn the game of basketball to better educate and teach their players.

The focus of this clinic will be on the high school level, with progressions from elementary through to the university level.

The clinic will include 10 30-40 minute on-court sessions of coach education and development with coaches from all over the province.

The instructors include Canada Basketball Women’s NEDA (National Elite Development Academy) coach Mark Walton, Wilfrid Laurier University Men’s coach Peter Campbell, Laurentian University Men’s and Women’s Coaches Shawn Swords and Mike Clarke, Cambrian College Men’s Coach Brad Hann, Ontario Basketball RTC (Regional Training Centre) and Lasalle Secondary Coach Mary Collinson, Laurentian University 2009 Rookie of the Year Andrew Lalonde and NEDA athlete and University of Vermont player Kristine Lalonde.

Sessions include ball handling, defense-individual and team, closing out, individual shooting, one on one skills-perimeter and post, fast break series/drills, rebounding/boxing out, pick and roll, three on three basketball, question and answer at the end of each session and much more.

Laurentian University varsity players will assist with the on-court demonstrations.

The cost of the clinic is $100, due before or on June 26. Those who register before June 14 pay $75.

Students who wish to watch and learn pay $75, or $50 if registered before June 14.

Accommodation is available for out of town coaches at the LU West Residence at a cost of $40 per person, plus taxes.
