Young basketball players in the city will have a chance to earn a position on the Ontario Summer Games girls' basketball team this weekend.

Tryouts for the team are scheduled for May 8, at Lockerby Composite School from 12-3 p.m. Girls under 15 as of Jan. 1, or born in 1995 or 1996 are welcome to attend.

Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. The fee for the tryout is $25, which includes a t-shirt. This fee must be paid by cash, money order or certified cheque at the tryout site. Participants can also register online at www.basketball.on.ca/events, under the Midget Development Program (MDP) girls section. A final tryout camp will be held in Sudbury at the end of May. If players are successfully chosen, there is a $500 fee to be a part of the team.

The Ontario Summer Games will take place in Sudbury this summer, from Aug. 10–13. Coaches for this team are Angie MacDonald and Shirlene McLean.
