The Sudbury District Motorsports Association received a $50,000 boost from the Ontario government May 25 to help develop a feasibility plan regarding the proposed multi-purpose racing venue, which could attract a number of racing events to the area.

Motorsport parks are used for a number of racing events including drag racing, motor-cross and snow-cross, as well as stock car, go-karting and off-road events.

“This study could lead to the establishment of the north’s first multi-use racing park with the potential to attract hundreds of visitors to the Sudbury area,” Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci said in a press release.

The study is expected to help determine the suitability of the proposed site. It will also help in preparing a business plan on operating the facility, and review all regulations required to launch a motorsport park in the region.

This initiative is part of the government’s five-year Open Ontario plan to create jobs and economic opportunities in northern Ontario. The investment was provided through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC).
