The Sudbury Wolves are set to begin preparations for the 2010-11 hockey season this weekend, with the Rookie Orientation Camp at the Countryside Arena.
The camp will start Saturday with an on-ice practice session from 3 to 4 p.m., followed by a one-hour scrimmage from 4 to 5 p.m. On Sunday, the camp will conclude with an hour and a half scrimmage beginning at 11 a.m. Players will also participate in off-ice work-outs and fitness testing throughout the weekend.
The Wolves’ 15 newly-drafted players will be on-hand including: first-round selection Mathew Campagna, selected fifth overall, and second-round selections: northern Ontario forward Brody Silk and Ottawa forward Sam Schutt. They will be joined by goaltenders Brendan O’Neill, Taylor Dupuis; defencemen Cody Mintz, Jeffrey Corbett, Tyler Prong, Michael Rouleau; forwards Nathan Pancel, Brad Cox, Tyler Duarte, Marly Quince, Peter Poulin-Roy and Kurtis Giommi. The Wolves will also welcome back 17-year-old defenceman Brennan Serville, who was drafted by the Wolves last year but did not participate in the 2009 Rookie Camp due to injury.
In addition, the Wolves have invited seven free agent players, including Darcy Haines, Nickel City Midgets forward, Eric Fraser, Nickel City Midgets goalie, Stephane Houle, Sudbury Wolves Midgets, defence Jake Ryan, New Liskeard Cubs forward, Luke Bierworth, Bowmanville Jr. A goalie, Adam Thomas, Milwaukee Midgets defence and Phil Marinaccio, Vaughn Midgets forward.
Returning defencemen Justin Sefton and Frankie Corrado will also participate in the weekend event to lend their leadership and welcome the first-year players to the Sudbury Wolves organization.
The rookie camp will also mark Trent Cull's first duty as the new head coach of the Sudbury Wolves. Cull will familiarize himself with the Wolves’ top prospects and will conduct the on-ice activities with returning assistant coach Jeff Beukeboom.
The Sudbury Wolves Rookie Camp is open to the public and is free of charge. The Wolves will also be offering a Rookie Camp Special on 2010-11 season ticket packages throughout the weekend.
