Sudbury's Track North Athletic Club athlete Caroline Ehrhardt has closed out her track and field season after being eliminated from competition in the qualifying rounds of the women's long jump and triple jump at the IAAF World Track and Field Championships, being held in Moncton, N.B.

In the qualifying round of the triple jump, held July 21, Ehrhardt landed a 12.50-metre jump — .28 metres shy of her personal best and not enough to advance to the final round.

“It didn't go as I hoped,” she was quoted saying, on the Track North website. “(But it's) hard to be sad with that fan support. After watching the Vancouver 2010 Olympics I have been excited to compete here and experience the home crowd.”

The qualifying round for the women's long jump was held July 22. Ehrhardt's best jump of 5.67 metres left her two spots shy of the 12 women final, which is set to take place July 23.

This concludes Ehrhardt's season, which saw her win two OFSAA gold medals, beat her own Canadian Interscholastic record in the triple jump and make Team Canada for the second consecutive year.

Ehrhardt will begin her freshman year at the University of Oklahoma this fall on a full athletic scholarship.

Track North runner Ross Proudfoot is scheduled to compete in the men's 5,000-metre race on July 24. Check back to NorthernLife.ca for those results as they become available.
