Tychon Carter-Newman, a 6-3 guard from Mississauga, is the newest recruit to sign on with the Laurentian University men's basketball team for the upcoming 2010-11 season.

Carter-Newman has been playing with the St. Edmund Campion CSS, which has won a number of championships, under coach Sanjeev Malhotra, who is a Voyageur Alumni himself.

As a rookie for the Voyageurs, Carter-Newman said he is looking to bring defensive intensity and energy, as well as a winning attitude on and off the court. "I hate losing so much, and basketball challenges me to always want to win," he said.

“In adding Tychon, we have improved our defense and athleticism,” Voyageurs' head coach Shawn Swords said. “He is also a high-energy player that plays every possession with the same intensity at both ends. More importantly he is a good character player and will do whatever is asked of him to help the Voyageurs be successful.”

The Laurentian Men's Basketball team has now closed is recruitment for this year. Carter-Newman is the latest addition to the Voyageurs roster and will join a group of recruits, including Eric Ducharme, Jeff Plunkett, Shavaan Sheldon and Mike Hull.
