Just over three weeks until the post-secondary clan returns for classes and with it, the start of another season of college varsity athletics. While there are sure to be plenty of new faces among the lineups of the eight OCAA teams at Cambrian College, not all of the news at the campus is happening on the field of play.

Earlier this week, Robert Audet, general manager, Student Centre/Student Life, confirmed the appointment of Tim Yu as the new athletic co-ordinator for the Golden Shield. Yu, who has spent the past decade or so at Cambrian either as a student or employee, takes over the reigns from Bob Piche, who retired in May.

In other sporting news at the college, Shane St. Louis returns for a second go-around with the Cambrian men’s volleyball team. St. Louis originally started his OCAA coaching career at Cambrian before moving over to guide the Collège Boréal Vipères volleyball team for most of the past five years.

St. Louis was hired after Richard Faucher decided to continue to explore options to play professionally in Europe, after spending a season at the helm of the Golden Shield.

The regular season calendar at Cambrian will open Sept. 11, when the soccer teams have the task of hosting the powerful Algonquin Thunder in their season opening games.
