For the bulk of the Sudbury Cycling Club riders, the in-house club races last Saturday spelled the end of their competitive season. But with club bragging rights on the line, the intensity remained high as both the A and B group contested a time trial road race, as well as a criterium.

Well-known traithlete Mike Coughlin fared well in the time trial, edging Derek D’Angelo by three seconds to capture top spot in the A grouping, while Wayne Aylincheck picked up the first place ribbon in Division B, out-sprinting Michel Barbeau by just six seconds to the finish.

It was a very different race for the criterium, as Rob Rice began to take control midway through the 30-kilometre event, finishing first with D’Angelo matching his earlier second-place finish.

In the B grouping, it was Trevor Rickwood pulling away from the pack and crossing the line first, while a closely bunched troika found Michel Barbeau, Roy Hums and Laura Haapamaki completing the 20-kilometre circuit in rapid succession..

In other local cycling news, former provincial champion Thomas Hums competed at the 2010 Track National Championships last weekend held in Bromont (Quebec), finishing fourth in the Sprints - Elite Men classification.
