On Sept. 25 from 11 a.m.–5 p.m., the parking lot at Cousin Vinny’s in Hanmer will transform into a street hockey stadium where players compete for bragging rights, coveted awards and enjoy a complimentary lunch, buffet dinner and family fun activities.
Some of the event’s highlights include the “spirit award” for the tackiest dressed team, and the most creative hockey equipment that can include anything from briefcases to umbrellas. Tournament champions and runner-ups will also receive trophies. To qualify, each team must raise a minimum of $600 in pledges.
“There are so many reasons to organize a Power Play team,” Lisa Lounsbury, development manager, Easter Seals, Ontario, said in a press release. “It’s a great way for companies to build team spirit and morale, and it helps kids with physical disabilities.”
Money raised goes towards funding essential equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs, and communications devices, providing summer camping experiences at Easter Seals camps, and funding recreational choices such as day camps, swimming and art classes. Since 1999, Power Play has raised more than $2 million for Easter Seals kids.
