The Laurentian University's 1974-75 Lady Vees national championship team is now forming part of the Ontario Basketball Hall of Fame, Class 2010.

The Lady Vees will join York University coach Bob Bain, Canadian Olympian Andrea Blackwell and Ottawa-based pioneer Hazel Miner in celebrating their inclusion in the Hall at a Gala Recption on Oct. 30.

The 1974-75 edition of the Lady Vees went undefeated in both league and playoff action, becoming Laurentian University’s first-ever national championship team. Under the guidance of coaches Norm Vickery and Dr. Sandy Knox, the team also captured the Ontario Women’s Interuniversity Athletic Association (OWIAA) and Canadian Women’s Interuniversity Athletic Union (CWIAU) championships.

Anne Hurley-McGrath and Sheila Strike were recognized as all-Canadians, as the ladies finished the season with an overall record of 25-6, capturing the first of five consecutive national championships. Members of that trail-blazing team included: Michele Belanger, Karen Best, Cindy Feren, Ann Hurley, Kathy Jennings, Laura Mattson, Donna Roman, Gayle Russell, Kathy Russell, Sheila Strike, Sue Swain, Kathy Williams, Joyce Wolfe, as well as coaches Norm Vickery and Sandy Knox.
