Soccer playoffs continue this weekend

There were some surprises in store as the Sudburnia Soccer Club played host to the first of two playoff weekends Aug. 13-15.

After finishing in third and fourth place respectively in regular season play, the End of the Roll and Panhellenic teams battled their way through to the Girls final in the Under-18 (U-18) division.

The match went to overtime before Courtney Battiston scored, propelling Panhellenic to a 1-0 win.

Over on the southern field at Lasalle, Gabriel Despatie netted a hat trick, and led his team, Lions Club, to a 4-0 win over Nickel Acme Printers in the Mixed final. Despatie finished with eight goals for the weekend.

The Lions Club picked up a pair of wins and two ties and advanced to the finals. In the bronze medal encounter, Yves Piette scored twice, and Coca-Cola Zero doubles the Lasalle Cougars 4-2.

Action continues this coming weekend with post-season play in both the U-12 and U-14 Girls and Mixed finals slated to take place at the Lasalle Secondary soccer fields.
