After three days of sporting action last week, Greater Sudbury closed the book on the 2010 Ontario Summer Games.

Just under 2,000 gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded to Ontario’s top young athletes this past week.

Local athletes who competed in the three days of sporting events brought in 22 of those medals.

Almost two years of preparation resulted in a spectacular event that Sudbury will be proud of for years to come, according to a press release from event organizers. The multi-sport competition, held at dozens of sporting venues in Greater Sudbury, saw some of the finest young athletes compete at levels that will springboard them into higher competition, the release stated.

“The caliber of the event was only outdone by the caliber of the athletes,” Dan Lee, Games co-chair, said. “We are grateful to the volunteers, sponsors and community for their endless support.”

  • the final bill will be offset by all the money people spent in restaurants ,hotels ,tourist attractions etc. The final bill will be offset by the young people who have been training for a long time to compete ,excel and develop confidence and pride in their region .THese kids will be the leaders of our community ,and any positive events that (i.e summer games) provide a positive influence in their lives is worth the final bill.I just wish there was a sport you could have participated in philip,it may have made you a worthwhile ,productive individual ....instead of what you have become

  • So what's the final bill going to be to the taxpayers?

THAT's the real news story folks.
