It was a pair of reasonably competitive games with some typical fall football weather in the air as the Joe MacDonald Youth Football League bantams christened the new turf field at the James Jerome Sports Complex on Labour Day Monday.

Eric Sauve scored three touchdowns, including two late in the fourth quarter, as the Central City Blue Devils upended the Lockerby Mustangs 24-14. Running back Tayte Kosmerly accounted for all the scoring in a losing cause with a pair of majors and two converts.

The running game was at the forefront as well in the second encounter as Joshua Brown scored on a pair of 50-yard runs, adding an eight-yard major as well, as the Lo-Ellen Raiders stopped the New Sudbury Hurricanes 29-16.

Matthew Glass opened the scoring for New Sudbury, galloping in from midfield, while Clayton Gunn nailed a 27-yard field goal for the Hurricanes as well.

In the tyke division play, the Lo-Ellen Pirates bounced the New Sudbury Storm 31-24, while the Central City Demons rambled over the Lockerby Colts 34-6.

Action continues throughout the fall on most Sunday afternoons, as well as Thanksgiving Monday, at the James Jerome Complex.
