The Sudbury Wolves are welcoming two NHL prospects back to their line-up from their respective NHL camps, in time for the team's season opener Friday night.

Ben Chiarot, 19, has been returned to Sudbury by the Atlanta Thrashers, while John McFarland, 18, has been returned to the Wolves by the Florida Panthers. Chiarot and McFarland are expected to rejoin their Wolves’ teammates at practice on Wednesday. Marcus Foligno is the only Wolves’ player remaining at an NHL Camp, with the Buffalo Sabres.

“It’s certainly a good news story for the Sudbury Wolves and our fans,” Wolves’ head coach Trent Cull said in a press release. “Our fans will enjoy watching two future NHL players develop right here in Sudbury. Both players are on their way back and have expressed their interest and dedication to lead our team to a successful season.”

Chiarot, 6-3, 215 pounds, is expected to anchor a Wolves’ blueline that is much more experienced than last year with the return of six veteran defencemen. Chiarot will be joined by Jake Cardwell, Josh McFadden, Nick Trecapelli, Frankie Corrado and Justin Sefton. Jimmy Sheehan, 17, is the lone rookie on the Wolves’ blueline.

In other news, the Wolves have traded the rights to Prince Edward Island native and overage forward Chris Doyle to the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors. In return, the Wolves receive a fourth-round draft selection in 2012 from the Majors.

Doyle, 20, was recently waived through the Quebec Junior Hockey League after concluding a four-year junior career. The Wolves claimed Doyle’s rights last week on OHL Entry waivers. Despite conflicting media reports, Doyle had refused to report to Sudbury and remained at home in PEI.

“With the recently confirmed return of Eric O’Dell to our line-up, we will have the maximum of three overage players in our line-up with Mike Lomas and Alain Valiquette,” Wolves’ general manager Blaine Smith said, in a press release. “With this transaction, we have added another draft selection that allows us to acquire an established OHL player or draft a four-year player for the future.”

The Sudbury Wolves will open their 2010-11 OHL season this weekend with the Atlas Copco Home Opener Weekend, featuring a double-header beginning Friday night when the Wolves host the Niagara IceDogs at 7:35 p.m. On Saturday, the Wolves host the Ottawa 67’s at 7:05 p.m. Tickets for the weekend games are now on sale at the Sudbury Arena ticket office.
