Last year's rivalry between the Brankor Trophies and the Food Basics Dragons, both from Valley East, was among the best in region's Northeast Houseleague (NEHL) Midget play.

For about a period-and-a-half on Oct. 12, it looked to pick right up where it left off as the teams went head to head at at Centennial Arena.

Brankor upped the effort and broke open a 3-2 game en route to a 10-4 spanking of the Dragons. After defenseman Brandon Legault opened the scoring for Brankor, the Dragons pounced on a lucky break when Kyle Schrader tapped in a misplayed puck to even the contest at one.

A number of scoring plays marked the match-up, including a feed from Mathieu Prevost to Ethan Gorman in the slot, who one-timed the go-ahead goal.

From there on, it was almost all Brankor, as Dragons' netminder Gustav Moreau was often under siege. Hd would turn away multiple shots before a rebound would finally make it home. Stevenson added another pair of goals, Patrick Desmarais netted a hat-trick and Prevost and Ben Conners closed out the books on the Brankor scoring parade in the early season battle.

Josh Harkins and Nick Guzzo, with his second, answered for Food Basics, who will look to rebound with a more complete effort in their next game. In a Bantam encounter earlier on Tuesday, Kyle Lehtela recorded a hat trick leading Sudbury past the Valley East Renegades 5-2.

Nick Taylor and Keegan Moore also scored for the winners, while Tyler Thompson and Emilie Martin replied in a losing cause for the Renegades.
