Patry Rink prepares for national curling championship

In less than two weeks, a local curling team will head to Prince Edward Island in search of a national title at the second annual The Dominion Curling Club Championship. The tournament is set for Nov. 23-28 at Prince Edward Island's Charlottetown and Cornwall Curlling Clubs.

After taking the provincial title in April, the Patry Rink from the Coniston Curling Club, will represent Ontario at the national competition in the women's division, vying against teams from each of the provinces and territories for the honour of being named the 2010 Canadian Curling Club Champions.

The team is skipped by Mélanie Patry, with second Christine Dubuc, vice Nicole Dubuc and lead Bryna Gaudette.

2010 Olympic Curling Coach for Canada, Jim Waite, and 2006 Paralympic gold medallist curler, Sonja Gaudet will be on hand for the week-long tournament. Last year’s inaugural tournament made history as Canada’s first national championship for club curlers, welcoming curling greats Glenn Howard, Mike Harris, and Sherry Middaugh, and awarding national titles to teams from Ontario’s Chatham Granite Club and High Park Curling Club.

All profits from The Dominion Curling Club Championship will be directed to the Canadian Paraplegic Association and developmental curling initiatives in communities across the country.
