The annual Goin' to the Dogs SPCA Animal Shelter Night takes place at the Sudbury Arena Jan. 7, as the Sudbury Wolves face off against the Barrie Colts.

Sudbury Wolves Mascot Howler, Greg Jambrosich, and Al Valiquette stopped in at the Notre Dame SPCA location on Jan. 4 to spend some time playing with the animals and help kick off the shelter night.

Fans can donate money or pet food during the game and have their names entered into a draw for a $50 Mr. Prime Rib gift certificate. Money donations are tax deductable.

According to the Sudbury SPCA's press release, donations at last year's event raised enough money to provide food and care for the shelter's animals for three months.

Items in demand this year are all types of cat, kitten, dog and puppy food, non-clumping cat litter, toys, blankets, cleaning supplies and pet store gift cards.

More than 600 animals were cared for and adopted out through the Sudbury SPCA last year.

The SPCA investigates claims of animal cruelty, provides shelter for and adopts out animals, helps reunite lost pets with owners, and provides a family violence assistance program. The program shelters pets of family members who reside in shelters.
