Many Sudburians routinely ride their bikes to work to stay healthy, save money and help the environment. On Monday, motorists across Ontario are leaving their cars at home, hopping on their bikes and riding to work. Sudbury is no exception and the SCU invites everyone to join in the fun.

More bikes on the road mean fewer cars, less congestion, less parking problems, less carbon emissions, better health and simply more smiles on the road, a press release stated.

As more cyclists take to the road in Sudbury, motorists are reminded that bicycles are, by law, considered vehicles and may be driving in the right-hand lane. Slowing down and providing adequate space when passing a cyclist is a simple and courteous gesture which is happily acknowledged by all, the release stated.

Similarly, cyclists are reminded that since they are riding a vehicle, they must also follow the rules of the road. Being visible and predictable will make your ride much more enjoyable and safe.

If you are a bit rusty on your bike, try a Sunday Joy Ride to get your riding legs back. If you are looking for a riding partner, visit the Sudbury Cyclists Union on Facebook.
