“While the purpose of the tournament is to have fun, the goal is to raise funds for local charities,” a press release stated.
Each participating team pays a $375 registration fee, finds a charity to represent and plays for their charity over the duration of three days. Each team is guaranteed four games and a meal Saturday night.
Cousin Vinny’s runs multiple fundraising events through the year with the main focus going to the prevention of drinking and driving. This tournament allows individuals to play for a charity they are passionate about, the press release stated.
Some of the charities that will be represented in this tournament include Action Sudbury, United Way, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Sudbury Food Bank, Whinnying in Life, Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and the MCTV Children’s Telethon. The winning teams in each division will be given a cash donation to the charity they chose to represent.
There will be a dinner and dance at Cousin Vinny’s Oct. 15 for all the teams who registered and “fought for the title of Charity Champ,” the release stated. Everyone in attendance will also receive a free ride home.
The tournament can accommodate 16 teams. Those interested in participating can visit www.cousinvinnys.ca, phone 705-969-5644 or 705-669-7828 or e-mail events.cousinvinnys@hotmail.com.
