The Sudbury Disc Golf Club recently hosted its first tournament at the Lions Club of Sudbury Disc Golf Course.

The tournament was an Ace Race, and as such, was all about hitting “aces” – the disc golf equivalent of a hole-in-one.

Each hole on the course was shortened to make it ace-able, and the player with the most aces at the end of two rounds was declared the winner, according to a press release from the club.

Thirty players participated in the tournament, hitting 12 aces throughout the day.

Players marked an “A” on their scorecards when they hit an ace. They also marked an “M’ on their scorecards for “Metals,” for each time they hit the basket or chains, but didn’t have their disc fall in for the ace.

Metal hits are used to determine the winner in the event of a tie.

“The tournament was a huge success,” Sudbury Disc Golf Club president Dean Aelick said, in the press release.

“The amount of disc golfers in Sudbury is growing every day, and to have such a great turnout for this tournament was awesome.”

The winner of the tournament was Eric Felber with two aces and four metals. Felber walked away with a Discraft bag containing eight disc golf discs.

The Sudbury Disc Golf Club operates the Lions Club of Sudbury Disc Golf Course, located in Selkirk Park in the Donovan. It is the only disc golf course in the city.

The course is free for the public to use on a recreational basis. The sport is easy to learn, inexpensive to play and can be enjoyed by people of all ages, the press release said.
