For two periods, the Nickel City Minor Peewee Sons executed the game plan to near perfection.

Holding a 4-1 lead, the Sons appeared on the verge of being able to subdue the Nickel City Major Peewee A Tigers once again. But a two-goal outburst early in the third keyed the comeback as the Tigers rallied to earn a 4-4 draw with the Sons.

The Sons opened the scoring late in period one as Ethan Lavallee connected on a pass from Shane Poitras, with Lavallee netting his second of the game, on a power play, five minutes into the second, doubling the advantage. The Sons scored yet another with the extra man as Tommy Vlahos found the mark a minute later before Charlie Dow put the Tigers on the board.

Still, things seemed well in hand for the Sons as Vlahos matched the two-goal effort of Lavallee, increasing his team's lead to 4-1 after two periods of play.

The turning point in the final frame came just over three minutes in as Justin Lindenbach and Kyle Preseau scored just 41 seconds apart, creating a one-goal game in a hurry.

The Tigers kept the momentum going, drawing even with 7:32 remaining as Preseau drilled his second goal of the game. With both teams enjoying quality chances over the final few minutes, opportunities to break the tie were many, but not to be on this night.

The tie means that the Nickel City Sons remain six points back of the Nickel City Rebels in the race for first place in the Peewee Division I standings (Nickel District Hockey League) while the Tigers crept to within four points of the West Ferris Major Blades in fourth place.

A pair of midget encounters highlight the schedule on Tuesday as the Sudbury Bulldogs make a visit to Val Caron, taking to the ice with the Nickel City Midget AA Rebels, while the Nickel City Minor AA Flyers will faceoff against the Copper Cliff Minor Midget AA Redmen at 5:30 p.m. at the Sudbury Arena.
