Sudbury's Olympic gold medallists Rebecca Johnston and Tessa Bonhomme will wear the country's colours once again at the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey Women's World Championship.

The two women are among 23 selected to Canada's National Women's Team for the competition which takes place April 7-14 in Burlington, Vermont.

The announcement comes at the conclusion of Canada’s National Women’s Team selection camp, which ran March 26-31 in Ottawa. Twenty-eight players from across the country participated in the selection camp, including 18 returnees from the Canadian contingent that claimed silver at the 2011 IIHF World Women’s Championship in Winterthur and Zurich, Switzerland, last April.

Johnston and Bonhomme were also part of Canada's women's hockey team, which won gold at the 2010 Winter Olympics.

The pre-competition camp runs until April 6. Canada faces off against the United States for its opening game April 7 at 7 p.m. On Sunday, Canada will take on Finland at 3 p.m., and on Russia at the same on April 10. The semifinals are scheduled for April 13 and medal matchups take place April 14.

The IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship began in 1990. This will be the tournament's 14th year. Canada’s National Women’s Team has appeared in every world championship gold-medal game, winning nine gold medals (1990, 1992, 1994, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2004 and 2007) and four silver (2005, 2008, 2009 and 2011).
