Wolves welcome rookies for spring camp

The Sudbury Wolves will host their Rookie Camp on May 5 and 6 at the Countryside Arena. A total of 15 forwards, 11 defencemen and six goaltenders are expected to participate.

All the Sudbury Wolves draft picks from this year's OHL Priority Selection, including first rounder Conor Cummins and third-round selections Francesco Vilardi and Connor Burgess, and a number of last year's selections will be invited to attend, along with a some free agent prospects. It will be the first opportunity for Wolves' coaches to see this year's drafted players in action.

A number of local faces will also take part in the camp. Invitations have been extended to six members of the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves, including goaltender Andrew Lefebvre, defencemen Scott Sirkka and Justin Lebreton, and forwards Charlie Venedam, Steven Green and Brandon Langella, who recently captured the Central Region Major Midget Championship in Sault Ste. Marie.

The local invites will also include Jimmy Roy from the Nickel City Major Midget team.

Wolves rookie Nick Baptiste, the 2011 first-round draft pick, will captain one of the Wolves' teams at the camp, while 2011 second-round pick Jacob Harris will captain the other Wolves squad.

The Wolves will also welcome 2011 second-round draft Evan de Haan, who will return to Sudbury after a successful season with the Pembroke Lumber Kings.

Fitness testing and a tour of the city will also be scheduled for the Wolves' young recruits. Scrimmages will be held on Saturday and Sunday. Times are yet to be announced. Admission to the scrimmages is free and the general public is welcome to attend.
