Sergei Tartykov, a former Russian national team member, world class figure skater and current NHL head skating coach for the Minnesota Wild, will lead a skating clinic at the RHP Training Centre in Sudbury this summer.
From Aug.6 to 10, Tartykov will bring his extensive professional experience as a skating specialist to the Sudbury facility to help the players of the north improve their on-ice agility and develop their technical skating abilities.
Tartykov has been a coach with the Minnesota Wild for the past seven seasons, where he has implemented several power skating programs into Minnesota's training program.
Andrew Brunette, a native of Greater Sudbury and current member of the Wild, said he thinks "it is a great idea to bring Sergei in to help with the coaches in the NOHA."
"I believe it is long overdue and anything that could help our players develop into better skaters, I am all for," Brunette said in a press release. "On a personal level, I wish that kind of help could have been available when I was younger — something that would have helped me tremendously.”
This camp is for pro, NCAA, OHL, junior, midget, bantam, peewee, atom and novice AAA, AA, A, and house league players. Skating technique will be further reinforced with the Blade Skating Treadmill, "which is bar none the best tool in the world for teaching skating mechanics," the press release stated. Off-ice, players will engage in a physical training program comparable to elite athletes.
