A four-goal, third-period rally, including three from Matthew Kvaltin, allowed the Rockhound Bandits to escape with a 5-5 tie with the Rockhound Wings in Greater Sudbury Lacrosse Association (GSLA) peewee action on Wednesday night.

The Wings seemed to set the tone early, with Lindon Shanks opening the scoring mere seconds after the opening face-off before things settled down somewhat. Philippe Larochelle (Bandits) and Calvin Puro (Wings) traded goals before the end of the first, leaving the Wings holding on to a 2-1 lead.

Brodie Erwin and Baron Perreault increased the advantage to 4-1, scoring in the latter stages of the middle frame as the Wings appeared to take control of the game.

But a pair of goals by Kvaltin closed the gap to just one, with Rilley Dube setting up Larochelle for his second of the game, deadlocking the contest at 4-4.

With just 3:17 to play, Connor Curich restored a one-goal lead for the Wings before Kvaltin capped his hat trick 86 seconds later. Local lacrosse action continues through much of the week, with the majority of games being played at the Coniston, McClelland (Copper Cliff) or Carmichael Arenas.
