Extreme Dance Studio celebrates 10 years

By: Sudbury Northern Life Staff

Sudbury's Extreme Dance Studio has a lot to celebrate lately.

The studio's competitive team recently represented the city at the Kick It Up Dance Competition, held at the Blue Mountain Resort in Collingwood.

Competing with 12 dance studios from across Canada, the Extreme Team was awarded Top Studio, bringing home a six-foot tall trophy and a jukebox stereo valued at $2,500. The studio also received cash scholarships for their outstanding performances, overall high scores, original choreography and versatility.

Extreme Dance Studio inspires leadership skills and community involvement, a press release stated. This year, the dancers worked with Science North, performing at the grand opening of Body Worlds Vital. Performances at their local church, elementary schools and fundraisers are other ways the studio contributes to the community.

Extreme Dance Studio artistic director Amanda Tessier said she would like to congratulate her teaching staff and dancers on a truly memorable year.

The studio also celebrated its 10-year anniversary this year. Since 2002, the enrolment has nearly quadrupled. Students who have been with the studio since its opening were given a keepsake charm bracelet with a laser print of the studio logo that dates 2002-2012.

Extreme Dance Studio, which offers classes in various styles of dances to children as young as two years old, is accepting registrations for the new dance season, Aug. 20-24 from 4-9 p.m. Visit www.extremedancestudio.ca or phone 705-694-7341.
