The Sudbury Wolves will begin the 2012-13 OHL season with a 25-man active roster.

Wolves’ GM Blaine Smith released the starting line-up for the Sudbury Wolves Monday after reducing the roster by one on Sunday. Defenceman, Zack McFadden 17, was reassigned to the Guelph Jr. B team on Sunday, where the younger brother of Florida Panthers’ prospect and Sudbury Wolves alumnus Josh McFadden will begin the season.

“Zack McFadden was one of the pleasant surprises at training camp,” Smith said. “As a 12th-round draft selection, Zack has again proven that it doesn’t matter where you are drafted, as long as you can make an impression at training camp and he certainly did that with us.

"Zack will be one of our call-up players this year as he will develop by playing more minutes at the Jr. B level. We look forward to seeing Zack perform in our line-up on a full-time basis in the very near future.”

The Wolves’ starting roster will feature two goaltenders, eight defenceman and 15 forwards. Of note, the Wolves have already suffered some injuries that will keep players out of the team’s line-up including: Jeff Corbett, 17, veteran defenceman that suffered an injury in the team’s first exhibition game and has not played since, as well as rookie forward Danny Desrochers, 17, who suffered a serious facial injury in Niagara on Saturday. Rookie forward Connor Burgess, 16, returned to the Wolves’ line-up on Saturday in Niagara after sitting-out three weeks with a concussion.

“Having experienced the number of injuries that we incurred last season, we feel it is important to begin the season with more players than in the past,” Smith said. “After playing in our home-opener weekend, eight of our next nine games will be on the road so we will see how things go health-wise with our roster at that point and take it from there.”
