The Lo-Ellen Park Secondary senior girls basketball team may have fallen just short of capturing the Laurentian Tournament title over the weekend, but the Junior Knights were more than ready to step in and carry the torch for the South End school.

The Lo-Ellen juniors upended Innisdale from Barrie 57-52 in the championship final, with Katrina Rogerson and Sheila Fyfe leading the way, scoring 15 and 14 points respectively. Jessica Richards topped all scorers in the game with a 29-point performance in a losing cause.

Innisdale built up a seven-point lead at the half before the Knights stormed back late to secure the win. Lo-Ellen edged Innisdale by a single point in round robin play, with the Barrie crew upsetting Park Street of Orillia in semi final play.

"(Innisdale) had changed their game plan a bit since we last saw them and were pounding the ball in to their two post players," said Lo-Ellen head coach Megan Chute. "Sheila Fyfe and Emily Derks had to go to work down low to keep the ball out of the posts' hands, and our guards denied the entry pass well.

"The game came down to clutch free throw shooting from Rogerson, Fyfe and Hayley McKibbon," the coach added.

Chute is back, once again, as head coach, with Katarina Schwabe helping out as an assistant coach. Both Lo-Ellen teams are back in action this coming weekend, heading to Sault Ste Marie for the 2012 Cougar Classic.

The senior division also includes Lasalle, as well as teams from Thunder Bay, Timmins and the Soo, while the Junior Knights are carrying the flag as the sole Sudbury representative in the 10-team junior field.
