Looking to get back on track after a narrow defeat against the Queens Gaels, the Laurentian Voyageurs engaged in a hard-fought battle against the Nipissing Lakers Sept. 26, earn a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal from Davor Alisic.

The first half saw the Laurentian team generate multiple chances, only to be denied by an excellent display from the Nipissing keeper. In a half filled with pressure from the visitors, the home team was solid in their back line, and kept the Voyageurs at bay for the entire half.

However, the hosts were not without threats of their own. Laurentian goalkeeper Matt George was solid between the pipes, producing some outstanding saves to keep the Voyageurs on even terms entering the second half.

The second half brought forth more pressure from the visitors, with Laurentian mounting more and more assaults on the host goal. This pressure eventually led to the breakthrough goal, when Alisic’s deflective shot beat the Nipissing goalkeeper, giving the Voyageurs a deserved 1-0 lead.

From here, the Voyageurs were able to hold onto their lead, with Matt George once again proving his worth, producing yet another game-saving effort, which proved to be enough to grant Laurentian the 1-0 victory.

Coach Castrechino was pleased with the efforts of the entire team, but was keen to praise the standout effort of goalkeeper Matt George, naming him as the player of the game for the victorious Laurentian squad. He said that it was important to get a win on the road, and build momentum heading into the teams next encounter against the Trent Excalibur.
