The Lockerby/Lo-Ellen senior boys volleyball rivalry just never grows old.

Each and every year, there is a new twist of intrigue to the matchup of the south-end juggernauts, as players come and go during their time with the Vikings and Knights.

Yet inevitably, the two clash again and again, most often with coaches Stephen Beausoleil (Lockerby) and Tom Sutton (Lo-Ellen) going head to head.

Advantage Sutton so far in 2012. Battling it out in the championship match of the Cardinal Classic at St. Charles College, the teams put on an entertaining show for those gathered in attendance.

Lockerby started quickly, building up leads of 19-13 and 22-18 before the Knights closed with a vengeance, picking up a 25-23 first-set win and claiming the banner with a 25-18 victory in set two. Many expect the teams, both undefeated in league play, to meet again in the city finals on Nov. 11.

After winning nine straight round robin sets against West Ferris, Lively and Horizon, the Knights swept the Espanola Spartans 25-23, 25-22 to earn a berth in the gold-medal game.

For their part, Lockerby took eight of nine sets against Notre-Dame, Champlain and Espanola, eliminating the Manitoulin Mustangs 25-18, 25-20 in semifinal action.

In the Junior Division final, the Lockerby Vikings earned a split for their school, taking the honours with a three-set win over the College Notre-Dame Alouettes, 25-18, 22-25, 15-5.

The Senior Consolation final would see Notre-Dame slip past Horizon 25-19, 25-22.
