The Laurentian Women's cross-country running team competed at the OUA Championships in Toronto on the weekend. Racing in pouring rain over a rugged and hilly five-kilometre course at the Kingbridge Centre, the Lady Vees placed 10th out of 15 teams, placing ahead of York, Brock, Laurier, Nipissing and Trent. The race was won by the defending champion Guelph Gryphons, with McMaster and Western placing second and third.

Laurentian was led by fifth-year veteran, Gracie Tetzlaff, who placed 47th out of 105 runners with a time of 20:15. She was followed by rookie Coralea Kappel, who placed 54th in 20:46; Katie Wismer, who was 55th with a time of 20:47; Alyssa Bedard, who was 57th in 20:49 and Jenna Thornber, who placed 70th in 21:23. Michelle Kennedy placed 89th and acted as displacer. Rookie Samantha Edwards, who has had a stellar rookie season so far, suffered a sprained ankle last week and was unable to compete.

"We're a young squad and have had Top 10 as our goal since the start of the season," said head coach, Dick Moss. "In fact, only three of our girls had raced at the OUA's before. But there's talent here and the desire to improve, so I believe we have a bright future."

This completes the season for the Laurentian harriers, who will now focus their attention on the indoor track season.
