The Sudbury Bantam A Lady Wolves came ever so close to their third straight pre-Christmas tournament title.

The team advanced to the championship final of the Markham-Stouffville Bantam Classic, forcing a shootout and surviving six rounds before finally dropping a 2-1 decision to the Temiskaming Shores Puckhounds.

The Lady Wolves hit the ground running in Markham, knocking off the West Northumberland Wild 5-0 as Megan Beauchamp led the way with a two-goal effort.

Josée Wahamaa, Kailie Venedam and Sierra Crossthwaite also scored for the locals, with Julia Plexman recording the shutout.

The Bantam A ladies looked equally as strong in Game 2, dismantling the Rideau St Lawrence Thunder 6-2 as Josée Scott and Myla McCormick netted two goals apiece for the winners.

Beauchamp and Darcie Roy rounded out the attack for Sudbury, which suffered their one and only loss in Game 3, blanked 2-0 by the North York Storm.

That setback re-focused the troops as the Lady Wolves completed round-robin play on a winning note, blasting the Georgina Golden Hawks 5-0. Venedam (2), Scott (2) and Beauchamp accounted for the offence for the northern girls.

Battling the host team in semifinal play, the locals went toe-to-toe before finally squeaking past the Markham-Stouffville stars 2-1. McCormick and Scott were back on the scoresheet once again for the Lady Wolves, recording their third and fifth goals of the weekend respectively.

Facing a familiar foe in Temiskaming Shores, the Bantam A girls received a goal from Beauchamp in regulation time to force overtime, and eventually a shootout, with netminder Zoe Piquette turning aside the first five shooters before the Puckhounds finally discovered a chink in her armour.

For her efforts, Piquette was named game MVP for the Sudbury Bantam A Lady Wolves. The team roster also includes Claire Romani, Kaitlin Daoust, Kennedy Cresswell, Karly Piro, Alexie Legault, Haley Moskal and Venessa Charbonneau.

The Bantam A squad is coached by Felix Piro, Paul Moskal and Kevin Beauchamp, with Kathey Marynuk serving as trainer and Jim Scott handling the duties of team manager.
