The Sudbury Nickel Barons exploded four final stanza goals on Feb. 2 at the Jus Jordan Arena in Iroquois Falls to break open a scoreless game en route to the triumph over the Abitibi Eskimos.
After no offensive production through the opening 40 minutes, the Nickel Barons’ Brett Dusick struck for the winner 31 seconds into the third period as he found the net during a man advantage opportunity.
A minute and 32 seconds later, it was Giovanni Foschia who made it 2-0 Sudbury.
The onslaught continued shortly thereafter as Dusick replied once again before Michael Rouleau finished things up with a power-play effort at 6:31.
The final score would read 4-0.
Alex Laino stopped all 30 shots he faced to register his first shutout of the season improving to 8-1 in his last nine appearances.
Jackson Winkler started for the Eskimos and suffered the loss, making 32 saves.
Jeremy Laux then stopped eight of 10 attempts he faced in relief.
Sudbury ran their record to 24-13 with the win, while Abitibi fell to 12-21-0-2.
