Lasalle Secondary School's Spencer Allen won gold not once, but twice at the provincial level, it was announced March 7.

Allen captured gold in both of his events — the 100-metre and the 50-metre freestyle — at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA ) swimming competitions this week. He was also a mere second away from breaking the fastest OFSAA time for the 100-metre.

The provincial competition was held in Etobicoke on March 5 and March 6.

“We are very proud of Spencer Allen for his outstanding achievement,” said Lasalle Secondary School Principal Jeff McKibbon. “He is an energetic Grade 9 student with a great deal of potential and talent who impressed everyone, including all of us at Lasalle.”

Allen trains with Lasalle alumnus Buddy Green, the school’s community coach for swimming. Spencer swam up a level to be able to qualify for OFSAA and will be in the Junior category for the next two years.

“Buddy Green has a great deal of experience and was able to work with Spencer to improve his strokes, starts and turns,” said Principal McKibbon. “We thank Coach Green for his support and guidance. Spencer’s success in the pool is his success as well.”

The school also extended thanks to parent volunteer Corrine Cacciotti, who travelled with the swim team and served as team photographer. Lockerby Composite School staff member Laura Stanyon also offered her knowledge and guidance.
