Lockerby Composite senior wrestler Victoria Day will go out on top.

After picking up a silver medal at the 2012 OFSAA competition, Day did one better in this, her final year of secondary school competition.

Day captured gold in Guelph earlier this week, beating out Jenna Leslie (Center Wellington District High School) in laying claim to top spot in the 51-kilogram division.

Day was the only SDSSAA representative to crack the top three spots of the podium, though some noteworthy top-six placements were somewhat more prevalent.

In the boys 51-kg grouping, Logan Blanchard (Lo-Ellen) and Dustin Pretty (Lasalle) finished fifth and sixth respectively, while Tim Glasgow of Lasalle earned a fifth-place ribbon in the unlimited boys category.

Elliot Lake native Gracelynn Doogan, representing Villa Française, duplicated the gold-medal efforts of Day, while Sooites Kate Trotter (gold, 64 kg) and Ellason Boyle (silver, 67.5 kg), both of White Pines Secondary School, and Natasha Dorodian (gold, 61 kg) of Korah, also medalled.

A total of just less than 30 local competitors attended the two-day meet that attracted wrestlers from across the province.
