Following a 6-2 loss to the Belleville Bulls on March 8, The Sudbury Wolves are now poised to close out their regular-season home schedule on March 15 when they play host to the Niagara IceDogs.
With the loss, the Wolves now sit two points back of the Brampton Battalion for fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings.
The Bulls jumped out to an early 1-0 lead 53 seconds into the first frame. Less than four minutes later, the Bulls added another goal on the power play.
The Bulls continued their first-period roll, scoring again at the 8:22 mark of the period to take a 3-0 lead, prompting a goalie change for the Wolves.
The fourth and final goal of the first period sent the Wolves to their dressing room with a 4-0 deficit.
The second period was much the same for the Bulls, extending the lead to five at the 6:22 mark of the period on the power play. Another goal came 49 seconds later to extend the Bulls lead to 6-0.
The Wolves, however, finally got on the scoreboard at the 10:05 mark of the second frame when Mathew Campagna put one past the Bulls’ goalie.
Despite trailing on the scoreboard, the Wolves outshot the Bulls 18-6 in the second period.
The Wolves kicked off the third frame with a power-play goal 2:40 in the period as Charlie Dodero fired a blast from the point that would find its way past the Bulls netminder. Dodero's marker would be the final goal of the evening.
The March 15 matchup will be crucial for both clubs in securing a top five spot in the conference, according to a news release. The Wolves currently sit three points up on the IceDogs for fifth place in the Eastern Conference with both teams having three games remaining.
Tickets for the game are now on sale at the Sudbury Arena ticket office. Hockey fans can also order tickets online as well as by credit card by calling 705-671-3000 during regular business hours.
The Wolves will then head to Belleville for a Saturday night matchup against the Bulls, where the Pack will try avenge their 6-2 defeat.
