The Sudbury Wolves called up two defencemen to add some much-needed relief to its injury-riddled blueline.

Tyler Prong, 18, has been called up from the Sarnia Legionnaires Jr. B team.

Prong joined his Sudbury teammates March 12 at practice as the Wolves prepare for the final weekend of the regular season with three games in three days.

Prong provides “welcome relief” for the Wolves’ coaching staff as the Wolves recently lost another defenceman to injury when first-round draft selection Conor Cummins suffered an injury last weekend which will keep the Whitby native out of the Wolves’ lineup indefinitely.

Prong recently completed his season with the Sarnia Legionnaires Jr. B team, which was eliminated in the first round of the GOJHL playoffs by the Leamington Flyers.

Standing 6-2 and weighing 185 lb, Prong recorded 12 points in 33 league games and had a goal and two assists in five playoff games for the Legionnaires.

He has played in eight games for the Wolves this season and has recorded one assist. Prong has a total of 21 career OHL games under his belt. He was drafted by the Wolves in the eighth round of the 2010 OHL Priority Draft, 146thoverall.

Meanwhile, the Wolves have signed 17-year-old defenceman Zachary McFadden to a contract.

McFadden is the younger brother of Pack member Josh McFadden, who has played for the Wolves for the past three seasons. Josh was acquired in a trade with the Mississauga Majors in exchange for a fifth-round draft selection.

The younger brother stands 5-11 and weighs in at 180 pounds. He is a right-shot defenceman, who finished the 2012-13 regular season with the Guelph Jr. B Hurricanes as the top-scoring defenceman on his team with 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points in 44 games.

He also led the team in penalty minutes with 104.

McFadden finished in second place on the team in power-play goals with seven markers.

“Players like Zach made the decision to play in an OHL game back in pre-season and gave us a chance to see what they can do in a game situation,” said Wolves GM Blaine Smith. “Based on his development, perseverance and dedication, we are pleased to reward him today with an OHL contract and scholarship package.”

The Wolves’ defensive corps has suffered a number of key injuries of late including a long-term injury to veteran Jeff Corbett, who has missed the last month of the season. Corbett, 18, has resumed practising this week and his to the Wolves’ line-up is imminent.
