BMAA A-OK at Mid-Canada Karate Championships

Competing at one of the largest martial arts tournaments hosted in Northern Ontario, members of the Benoit's Martial Arts as well as the Xtreme Team continued a very rewarding run through the spring of 2013.

The local club featured 10 first-place finishes at the 28th Annual Mid-Canada Karate Championships, a grouping that included Jacob Schweyer (first - kumite), Amelie Comtois (first - kata), Ethan Bubba (first - kata), Duncan Smith (first - kata), Nathan Anness (first - kata; first - kumite), Brianna Smith (first - kata; first - kumite) and Ryan DiSalle (first - kata; first - kumite).

In addition, both Bradley Chaput and Marissa Meandro recorded top three placings in their first tournament in the black-belt division.

Following is a breakdown of all results for both the BMA and Xtreme team participants in the one-day event hosted on May 4 at Cambrian College:

Connor DiSalle - 2nd in kata
Jacob Schweyer - 1st in kumite
Amelie Comtois - 1st in kata; 4th in weapons
Bradley Chaput - 2nd in kata
Ethan Bubba - 1st in kata
Duncan Smith - 1st in kata
Marissa Meandro - 3rd in kata; 2nd in kumite
Juliana Meandro - 4th in kata; 2nd in kumite
John Howard - 3rd in kumite
Nathan Anness - 1st in kata; 1st in kumite
Brianna Smith - 1st in kata; 1st in kumite; 4th in weapons
Ryan DiSalle - 1st in kata; 1st in kumite
Jordan Schweyer - 3rd in kumite
Sam Lawson - 3rd in kata
Isla Smith - 2nd in kumite
