Her on-ice abilities have earned Lively native Meagan Duhamel some off-ice recognition.

The Lively native was awarded the 2013 Investors Group Amateur Athletes Fund Bursary in Ottawa on June 27.

The national figure-skating team member was among 20 amateur athletes to earn the $5,000 annual bursary. The award is aimed at helping Canada’s elite amateur athletes with the costs of training and competition.

Alongside her skating partner, Eric Radford, Duhamel earned a gold medal at the 2013 Four Continents International, a bronze at the 2013 World Championships and a second Canadian Pairs Championship title. It was a big year.

“I am very grateful for being selected as a recipient,” Duhamel said. “As an elite figure skater the expenses we incur with our training are overwhelming and to receive this bursary now, it is ideal as it will help me in pursuit of my goal towards the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia.”
