Wolves find themselves down 2-0 in World Cup action

Team Canada, represented by the Sudbury Wolves, lost a close 4-3 decision on Monday night against the first-place team from Finland at the Junior Club Wold Cup in Russia.

The Wolves rallied from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game and Mathew Campagna just missed on a break-away, before Team Finland came back and scored the winner with just 45 seconds remaining in the game.

Wolves' goaltender Taylor Dupuis had a strong game in goal for Sudbury and made a number of excellent stops.

Nick Baptiste led the Wolves with a goal and two assists. Dominik Kahun had a goal and an assist, Mathew Campagna had two assists and Dominik Kubalik scored a goal on a breakaway.

Once again, the Wolves ran into a hot goaltender as the Finnish netminder stymied Wolves' shooters until the third-period rally began.

Shots on goal in the contest were 33-20 in favour of the Wolves. The Wolves trailed 1-0 after the first and second periods. The Finns scored on a power play early in the third period before following it up with an even-strength marker on a 2-on-1 situation to take a 3-0 commanding lead early in the third period.

Kubalik's goal got the Wolves going offensively before Baptiste and Kahun scored power-play goals to tie the game with just over five minutes remaining in the third period.

The Wolves also lost forwards Brody Silk and Jacob Harris to injury in the second period. Silk will miss the remainder of the tournament while Harris will return to the Wolves' lineup against Sweden.

The Wolves will now face Team Sweden on Wednesday and the Wolves face a must-win situation to try and get themselves into a tie-breaking situation for the medal rounds.
