A four-goal first-period outburst propelled the visiting North Bay Trappers past the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves 4-2 in Great North Midget League exhibition play last night at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex.

Charlie Giesler broke the ice, scoring the game's first two goals, with teammates Alec Shaw and Devyn Martel increasing the advantage to 4-0 before Jeff Delange put Sudbury on the board with just four seconds to play in the middle frame.

Anthony Pelletier reduced the gap to a pair of goals, potting a power-play marker on a pretty individual effort midway through the third, but that was as close as the Nickel Capital Wolves would get.

The teams were dead even in shots on goal, with both squads registering 29, roughly the same number of minor penalties assessed in the contest that would see a steady stream of players sent to the sin bin.

The same two teams are back in action tonight, battling at the Pete Polangio Arena in North Bay, with GNML regular season play set to begin on Sept. 7.
