The ladies blanked the George Brown Grizzlies 2-0 on Friday evening as goals from TK Rocca and Courtney Ceccarelli proved to be enough support for the shutout netminding of Ashley Bechard.
Rocca looked even more impressive on Saturday, netting the hat trick in a 3-0 win over the Centennial Colts. A graduate of Macdonald-Cartier, Bechard shared the shutout with another Sudbury native, St. Charles graduate Amelia Temelini.
“It was a great weekend for the girls, accumulating a big six points and taking a massive stride towards a playoff spot,” said head coach Giuseppe Politi.
In fact, for the time being at least, the Golden Shield sits in first place in the OCAA East Division, just ahead of both Seneca and Algonquin.
The Cambrian men, on the other hand, continue to get frustratingly close, dropping a 1-0 decision to George Brown and falling 3-2 to Centennial. Stephane Legrand and Danny Radu found the back of the net for the locals opposite the Colts.
“This team is, by far, the most unlucky team I’ve coached at Cambrian,” said Politi. “The guys sincerely deserve to be better than the record shows.”
Both the Golden Shield men and women will be at home this Saturday for double-header action against the Durham Lords, beginning at noon.
