Last year, 95 teams battled it out for pond hockey supremacy. This year, the tournament is back and it's bigger. From Feb. 7–9, teams will take to the ice for 3-on-3 play during the day and into the night. The organizing committee has created a unique-to-the-north opportunity for families, friends and colleagues to get outside, become active, and return to the grassroots of a game that is such a large part of Sudbury’s identity.
Additional events on site during the festival will include a curling demonstration by the Idylwylde Golf and Country Club, ice fishing, and hot air balloon rides.
Vendors will also be on site for players and festival goers to fuel up.
The cost per team, to enter for 2014, ranges from $300 to $500. All ages are welcome, as there are 12 different divisions dependent on age and level of play.
Proceeds from this year’s festival will go to Autism Ontario, Sudbury Branch to support various local initiatives and programs within the community.
The registration deadline is Jan. 23. Registration forms, requirements, rules and volunteer information can be found online at www.pondhockeyontherock.ca or by calling 705-626-7437(PHFR) or by email at [email protected].
