With a core of talent from a successful Intermediate A team from one year ago and several key additions, the Sudbury Senior A Lady Wolves took to the ice this fall.

This past weekend, the team started to tap into the winning formula that would see them emerge as gold-medal winners in no less than six consecutive tournaments in 2012-2013.

Led by former Neumann University scoring sensation Jessica Schroeder, the Lady Wolves went undefeated in five games, capturing the North Bay Blue Sky Classic.

The local ladies started the tournament with their only blemish, settling for a 2-2 draw with the Barrie Sharks as Tanya Lamon and Schroeder, with her first of the weekend, found the back of the net for Sudbury.

By the time Game 2 rolled around, the Lady Wolves offence was kicking into gear, outscoring the Brampton Intermediate A Canadettes 5-2. Lamon and Schroeder were joined on the scoresheet by Chantale Archambault, Amber Debassige and Valerie Valiquette.

It was more of the same against the Brampton Senior A team, with the nickel city crew posting a 6-0 whitewash as six different players hit the mark. Schroeder, Valiquette, Janick Bazinet, Ashley Gosselin, Jill Zinn and captain Max Vaillant accounted for the Sudbury offence.

Finishing first in their division, the Lady Wolves would draw the Senior Brampton crew one more time, with somewhat predictable results. Schroeder and Valiquette scored two goals apiece, with Zinn adding a solo marker as Sudbury made it a cumulative 11-0 sweep of the elder Canadettes.

Faced with a rematch against Barrie in the championship affair, the Lady Wolves were more than ready, blanking the Sharks 4-0. Gosselin was front and centre offensively, netting a pair, with solo markers from Schroeder and Natalie Arbour.

At the other end of the ice, goaltender Vanessa Jacques provided an impressive final wall of defence, helping her team claim gold after settling for a silver medal in Oshawa and reaching the semifinals of the London Senior Classic.

The Senior A Lady Wolves roster also includes Jenna Lantaigne, Monique Marcotte, Caroline Pollock, Lina Perrier and Lucia Mazza. The team staff, comprised of head coach Brian Band, assistant Rob Marcotte and trainer Rachelle Marcotte will now begin preparing the ladies for their next tournament in Peterborough in two weeks time.
